About Your Host

Hello, my name is Patrick Heller a.k.a. cueball, on a CB Radio if you know what one is, and I’ve been a Truck Driver for damn near 30 years and decided to start a podcast to talk about Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.  Everything you’re going to hear on this podcast is from a Truck Drivers’ point of view and just my opinion.

Ever since I was a little kid, I would always imagine me driving the Big Rigs having control of something that huge in my eyes would be so awesome. I would always do the arm thing to get Truckers to blow the air horn, while we were on our way to visit relatives and vacations.  That was totally awesome when they would toot the horn for the kid in the car.  It’s always been a lifelong dream of mine to be a Truck Driver when I got out of School, I was going to hit the road baby and blow this Popsicle stand so to speak…. Well here’s what really happened.

I got started back in the summer of 1991 with a general contractor who agreed to teach me how to drive his Mack dump truck which we used a lot for blacktopping if I learned to drive a wheel barrel first. We shook hands, cause that’s what you did back then, and agreed on a wage and off I went pushing that wheel barrel for the summer.  I never did get to drive that awesome Mack dump truck more then a couple of times that summer, but it was awesome when I did.  Summer was ending and so was the workload and  I was told if I found something else, he wouldn’t hold it against me if I took it.

I applied for a driving job at one of the local Garbage Companies and got the job.  I told the General Contractor what was going on and we shook hands and parted ways. He did say if it didn’t work out to give him a call. I drove for that Garbage Company for the next 2+ years until I had a backing accident and was let go.

I took some time away from driving and went to Welding School to learn the trade and put another notch in my utility belt so to speak.  It took about 6 weeks to run through the course while on unemployment and I landed a job right out of Welding School welding on structural steel for new buildings being built in the surrounding areas.  Because I was low man on the totem pole, I got laid off when the work ran out.  So now I’m back on unemployment, great now what, so I had that heart to heart talk with myself and decided that I’m a better Truck Driver then I am a Welder.  Off to Trucking School I went to acquire my CDL class A license after all the knowledge was in my brain, I just needed to extract it and put it to use.

I graduated from Trucking School with a 92 overall average and landed a driving job with a flatbed company that would only hire people out of school with a 90 or better average.  Now its official I’m a Tractor Trailer driver and I’m hitting the road on a "regional board", earning 20% of the gross haul, and man is it harder than it looks.  After doing approximately a year on the regional board I said enough of this and found a local driving company to work for and have been with them for the last 20+ years.

Fast forward to today and following the advice of one of my many mentors, I decided to start a podcast to talk about Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness.  Keep in mind that this is just my opinion and you never know what the heck is going to come out of my mouth.
